Thank you SO much for reading my Out of the Closet posts. Even if you didn’t comment, I’m glad you shared in the experience. It was pretty cathartic to write. I actually cried after writing the third one. They were happy tears though, don’t worry!
I also put out into the universe that I’d like to update and work on expanding my blog – so expect some Big Girl changes in the next few months! You know, when I can hire a professional web developer…and pay them in scones.
Speaking of putting things out into the universe – I’ve been spending my mornings with Deepak Chopra.
That’s right. This guy.
Mr. Chopra and his teachers have been leading a 21 Day Spring Meditation Challenge. I’m on Day 3, as of today. It’s been great so far. They email you a daily podcast. Play, close your eyes and listen! You can also answer prompting questions at the end of the podcast. You can sign up at the link above if you’re interested.
I think it’s a great way to get into a meditation habit and an even better way to begin the day. I’ve found that I tend to be calmer, connected and more focused when I start with a meditation in the morning.
Case in point: Yesterday I had to go back to work for the first time since being radioactive. Wednesday night I was really sad and lamented to the Dude about how I didn’t want to goooooooooo (just like that). Thursday AM, I pull out of my driveway and head off to work. One block away from my house, my oil plug falls out of my car and 4 gallons of oil drained from my Camry!
Viola! No work!
Meditation also helps you face challenges. Like when you want to kick the workers at Jiffy Lube in the face because they clearly didn’t pay enough attention and could have seriously damaged your car had you not been so close to home.
Not a problem for me. I’m a meditating maven, man. But you can be sure I also “expressed my intentions:
The Dude and I are celebrating his belated birthday in Portsmouth, NH on Saturday. I can’t wait to do some celebrating! I hope your Friday is off to a great start, with or without Deepak.
What are you celebrating this weekend?!

Erin — I’ve been doing the meditations too! I used to meditate daily but got out of the habit a few years ago and am welcoming it back and taking it all in.
I also put out to the universe about wanting to expand my blog (and yes, pay a graphic designer in gluten free scones!)
Here’s to our minds and our blogs! Cheers!
Lauren
oh i’m LOVING your meditation challenge! i feel like i would love to do this while i drive to work every morning! are the podcasts free? deeeeeeeeeeets please!
Yes! It’s totally free. I’m not sure if you could play it on a phone, but it’s worth seeing if you can download them to the phone or whatever you use to play in the car. Just don’t close your eyes while driving, missy
Thanks so much for telling us about the meditation challenge; exactly what I’ve been needing to get me back into it. I’m definitely one of those “crisis meditators” Deepak talks about…I cling to meditation when the going gets rough, but then gradually get lax about it.
Enjoy your time in Portsmouth! I’ve read that it’s really becoming a foodie destination.
That’s what I wanted to share it – it’s a great intro or reintroduction to it. Even if meditation sounds too weird or “zen-y” to people, it’s nice just to take 15 minutes to sit there and listen to something.
Thank you! We’re super excited to try out some restaurants.
I love meditation, though I might practice it a bit differently than Deepak. That’s kind of the beauty of it; meditation can be whatever you need it to be. Also, I love your face, and that I can see it not hiding behind sunglasses. Also, that I get to know you better with eat post. Also, that we’re friends.
Annnd I hope you guys have a wonderful, crazy, fabulous time
Meditation is hard. But sooooooo worth it. I actually saw Deepak speak! It was a little over my head at the time (6 yrs ago- my mom dragged me) but I wish I could see him now- I’d get WAY more out of it.
Hope your weekend goes smoothly… er… lol
Whooooa I live in Nh – I hope the dude’s birthday was fabulous! And I’m glad your car didn’t get seriously damaged-that woulda sucked!
I am a big fan of expressing my intentions. Both in a productive way and in an I’m venting eff you kind of way.
Erin, i love this! I think I am totally on board for the 21 day challenge. I really really really need some meditation in my life right now. big time.
