I started off my morning with an overnight parking ticket (Providence, I forgot!), a missing hair dryer, and a Thyrogen shot to begin my radioactive iodine week. Woof.
Then I realized that I only have to work one day this week, my alma mater’s team is in the Basketball Championship tonight (UCONNNNN!), and in two days I get to eat all of the Jolly Ranchers I want. AND we’re moved into our apartment with the help of amazing friends and Whole Foods salad bar. Much better.
My entire weekend was spent moving, cleaning, arranging, unpacking, eating pizza (some LIL friendly and some illegal) and yelling at the TV during basketball games. It was super fun and super exhausting.
This morning I went to the hospital to have my first of two shots before I get radiactivized (yup, a word) this week. Truth be told, I’m not exactly looking forward to it – mainly because I just don’t know what to expect. I know how the treatment works and what I need to do afterwards, but I don’t know how I’ll feel. The good thing is that millions of people have gone through this treatment before me and I’ve been able to do some research into what might happen.
As I often remind myself, it’s good to be prepared, but it’s also not my experience. I’m unique (not in that corny way), but in the way that it could be totally easy for me. And it could be totally crappy. But either way, I’ll be okay. I’ll get through it. I know that this is one of the last steps through this phase, this treatment and this diagnosis. This journey isn’t going to end this month, but it’s another experience I’ve survived along the way.
Going along with that theme, my Mix A Lot Monday is dedicated to all of the survivors out there. You don’t have to go through cancer to be a survivor. Whether it’s a breakup, depression, a crap day or week, unemployment, a diagnosis or that negative chatter tells you you’re nada – if you’re still thriving, you’re a survivor.
Some of these you aren’t able to watch through the link. The link will take you to YouTube.
Just put your paws up. For reals.
This song is amazing. Johnny Cash is amazing. Enough said.
If you don’t know PS22 chorus yet, prepare to swoon. I especially love the soloist and the kid in the green shirt, front row.
If you don’t watch Friday Night Lights, you have never seen good television. It’s not just about football. Go watch it on Hulu. You’ll thank me. Hello, Tim Riggins.
You know I had to put this one in.
And this one.
The title of this post was thought up by my new best friend, Katie. Isn’t she so clever?! Humor, people. It’s a necessity.
Happy Monday!

I both loved, and laughed, and loved again during this post.
(Oh, and sang. There was a lot of out-of-tune singing along.)
Lady, I am so amazed by your attitude. (And your awesome taste in music…The Cashmeister? Hurt? Really? You make me swoon with girl-crushiness.) That cancer is gonna be real sorry once you get your radioactive superpowers fully charged. < 3 You've got this. And that fact that you know you do, rocks even harder.
Ahh yes, Providence and their stupid overnight parking tickets. I think I’ve made a fortune for this city in the 4 years I’ve lived here.
Congrats on the successful move! Glad you had such a good weekend! And I love your positive attitude going into this week. You are amazing! Sending tons of positive thoughts your way.
Oh my gosh, i have watched that Friday Night Lights video a million times. It’s the best show ever. ever. and that version of “Hurt” gets me everytime. goosebumps. Nicely done Mr. Cash.
Nothing but love and positivity and images of Tim Riggins without a shirt heading your way sister friend!
You have suchhh a positive attitude. Aka, you’re completely baller. And born this way, is my jam!
The kids are all closet Sweet Adeline’s, they just have to be discovered! Such expression and there is even a little choreo in there. SW’s had Glee beat by 30-40 years! And how we all were laughed at!! Way ahead of the curve and enjoying it. The rest of the world just hadn’t caught up.
You come from a unique family of survivors; (drain brains, heart burn, etc. etc…).you will come through with flying colors. Hard to hit a moving target as they say.
And oh yeah, you are a Husky and look at what they just did!! Talk about survivors!!
thank GOD for your alma mater! my dad won 140 bucks thanks to uconn
hahaha
