Year of Joy.

Today is my 29th birthday.

That sounds so crazy, but I guess every new age, every next birthday sounds a little weird until you get used to it.

I was thinking about it last night…28 was a crazy, big, insane year. Since last year, I

  • adopted a cute and crazy dog
  • renovated and moved in with Duder to our first apartment
  • went through two radioactive treatments for thyroid cancer
  • quit my job of 4 years and became a full-time student and graduate assistant in the field I love
  • was honored to be a bridesmaid for two of my best friend’s at their weddings
  • traveled to Kripalu (twice!) to see Kris Carr and enjoy a weekend of yoga
  • traveled to Oregon, Washington State, Washington, DC, and Portsmouth, NH for vacations
  • earned straight A’s in my first term as a grad student
  • found out I was cancer free
  • celebrated 2 years of love and good times with my main squeeze

I’m not quite sure what could happen in my 29th year to top that?! ;)

The past few weeks I’ve been really anxious and stressed out, with the start of my new term and trying to balance life. Birthdays are a great reminder of everything that’s happened in the past year (both good and not so fun) and everything that I have to look forward to. It’s a reminder that life continues, whether we meet our goals or not, whether we’re stressed out or relaxed, whether we’re having fun or not…so why not try to incorporate a little more joy into my life?

29 = year of joy. :)

What was your favorite birthday?! Mine is a tie between 21 and 27 (one ended with me falling down a hill into the snow (humorously) and one ended with a 40 person serenade).found out I was cancer free

  4. I love annual reviews at birthdays! I find that reflecting on the past year is much more appropriate on one’s birthday than on January 1. Plus, if people made resolutions on their birthdays, maybe the gym wouldn’t be so crowded every January. :-)

I think my favorite birthday was the first one I actually remembered, my 4th! I woke up from an afternoon nap, looked out my bedroom window, and saw the entire backyard decorated with balloons, streamers, and other colorful decorations. I was SO EXCITED that all of these friends and neighbors came to celebrate my special day. I got a ton of presents, a Cabbage Patch cake, and twirled around the grass in my pretty dress and Mary Janes. My parents have the whole event on video, too!

    Happy 29th!

Happy Belated Birthday!! Yep – 29=joy since you are cancer free! My hubs had colon cancer last year – luckily they were able to remove it with surgery only – but its still been a rough year that we are still trying to get through.

While I miss my “old life” i.e, going out to eat, etc., my husband is still here and that’s really all that matters, right?!

And for the record, even though I’ll be 44 next month, I’ll just be celebrating my 29th birthday for the 15th time. :D

  9. Happy Belated! Wow 28 was an epic year for you! Here’s hoping 29 will be equally as amazing! I’m not sure which bday was my favorite… 21 was epic, but my boyfriend took me surprise parasailing two years ago and that was pretty amazing!

  12. It I was you the cancer free news would definitly give one of the 2 birthdays the edge.

My best one and worst was my 13th, I got the best gift ever (tickets to go watch wwe then wwf, I was a massive fan) but I got the gift 2 weeks before my bd. Thi was the best gift I could ever had had but as we were broke I then got nothing on the actua day and was really upset about that even though I had the best gift and day I could remeber a few weeks prior!!
